The Voice of Martin Luther King Jr

In a season where visible Christian leaders seem to continually put their foot in their mouths and make The Church a joke in the eyes of culture, it’s great to be reminded of how Rev. Martin Luther King Jr used his voice to inspire and bring about change in culture.

Here are just a few of my favorite quotes:

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.

I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.

I just want to do God’s will. And he’s allowed me to go to the mountain. And I’ve looked over, and I’ve seen the promised land! I may not get there with you, but I want you to know tonight that we as a people will get to the promised land.

Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’

The first question which the priest and the Levite asked was: “If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?” But… the good Samaritan reversed the question: “If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?”

Two Questions:

1) What is your favorite MLK quote?

2) How are you using your voice to affect culture?

“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”

I choose to challenge the status quo- the Romans 12:2 way!

“A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus.”

by challenging our generation to live a life of abandonment (intimacy, prayer and worship) for Christ and being found like Anna and Mary. — Luke 2:36-38 / Luke 10:38-42

“The single most important and irresistable question is, What are you doing for someone else.” – MLK

I am just trying to serve those around me… in or out of the spotlight.
